This Isle of Mull single malt is a great alternative to the peaty whiskies of its neighbor Isle of Islay with a more herbal flavour. The local peat used to make this whisky, peated at 30-40ppm, gives a very special island touch and a memory of chimney soot. This 18 year old Ledaig is aged in bourbon casks and finished in sherry casks.
Peated.
Tasting notes of the distillery:
On the nose, rich, fruity sherried smokiness, lovely balance of phenols, seaweed and light creosote, dried chilli flakes, spicy black pepper with hints of sweet oakiness.
On the palate, powerful rich, sherried, herbal smoky flavours, orange peel, coffee, a touch of sea salt, tobacco and white pepper.
