This edition of Big Peat was released for Fèis Ìle 2024, and benefits from refining in Caribbean rum casks, which adds a sweetness to this peated whisky. Big Peat is a blend of Douglas Laing's Islay single malts, including Caol Ila, Bowmore, Ardbeg and Port Ellen. This whisky is bottled with its natural colour and without chill filtration.
Tasting notes of the bottler: On the nose, peated barley and smoke give way to a warm, spicy style and toasted marshmallows. On the palate, oily and thick with a distinct Islay character, flambéed bananas, barbecued and honeyed malt. The finish is a lingering coal dust with a charred pineapple and allspice sweetness.
