Description
The Midleton Very Rare was first released in 1984 and is made up of a selection of the distillery's most exceptional whiskeys. For this annual edition 2023, it is composed of single pot still and single grain whiskeys aged in lightly charred ex-bourbon American oak casks. A selection of casks from master distiller Kevin O'Gorman.
The smooth whisky opens with a mix of fruits, including nectarine, ripe melon, green apple and apricot. A good note of spice, freshly peeled ginger and crushed peppercorns adds depth and works in tandem with fragrant notes of dried flowers on a syrupy sweetness. Oak notes continue to reveal themselves, adding hints of vanilla, combined with honeyed sweetness and freshly roasted coffee beans. Fruit and spice build to a crescendo before giving way to oak tannins and ancient grain whisky.
